President Trump has issued a strong statement condemning the attempts to remove Confederate monuments.

Speaking recently via social media site Twitter, the president stated:

Sad to see the history and culture of our great country being ripped apart with the removal of our beautiful statues and monuments. You can't change history, but you can learn from it. Robert E Lee, Stonewall Jackson - who's next, Washington, Jefferson? So foolish! Also the beauty that is being taken out of our cities, towns and parks will be greatly missed and never able to be comparably replaced!

President Trump’s strong words come after days of withering coverage from the media critical of his response to recent clashes between factions over the potential removal of a statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee in Charlottesville, Virginia that left one woman dead.

Groups such as Black Lives Matter and far-left AntiFa are organizing to pressure local, state, and federal government officials to remove Confederate monuments, which they see as symbols of racism, hatred, and bigotry.

Defenders of the Confederate monuments, however, argue that they represent heritage, not hatred, and serve as important reminders of the lessons our country can learn from its history and the Civil War.
