President Trump has ruffled some feathers among our NATO allies by suggesting European nations are taking advantage of the United States by under-spending on national defense and urging them to meet the agreed-upon target of 2% of GDP for military spending.

President Trump’s detractors criticized his actions, saying they were needlessly antagonistic of America’s allies.

But President Trump’s supporters -- who agree with the president’s opinion that America’s allies and trade partners take advantage of our generosity -- lauded the move, and the European Union’s Council President Donald Tusk grudgingly urged European countries to increase their defense spending.
